DJS Communications Earns Two IABC Renaissance Awards For Work in Special Events, Writing
ROYAL OAK, Mich., July 1, 2011 – DJS Communications, an independently owned corporate communications group founded in 2004, won two IABC Renaissance Awards yesterday, presented by the Detroit Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) at the organization’s 30th annual Renaissance Awards event held at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Conference Center in Detroit.
The company earned an Award of Merit in the “Communications Management – Special Events” category for the “Better Innovation on Tour” event series presented throughout 2010 on behalf of its client, Tata Technologies. Daniel Saad, a founding partner of DJS Communications earned an Award of Honor in the “Communication Skills – Writing, Editorial/Column” category for his column titled “The Tata Nano: Product Development Lessons from an Innovative Product” written on behalf of Tata Technologies for Time Compression magazine.
“Better Innovation on Tour” was a multi-state series highlighted by the display of the Tata Technologies Better Innovation Tata Nano automobile at each stop April through November 2010. Tour stops included client sites, industry events – including the CAR Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Mich. – and universities including the College for Creative Studies (Detroit), The University of Michigan and Harvard.
Tata Technologies played a key role in engineering the Nano. The company used the car to highlight its full-vehicle engineering and design capabilities to clients, engineering students and select automotive and engineering media.
“An innovative approach to presenting engineering capabilities,” noted one judge. “Impressive management of logistics and communications on a tight budget,” said another. Judging was conducted by IABC officials in the Chicago Chapter.
“The idea for the column actually began on the set of an automotive industry TV show,” Saad recalled, discussing his Award of Honor for column writing. “I had arranged an appearance for the Tata Technologies President on a panel of automotive industry experts and he was seated next to the editor of Time Compression magazine.
“Off-camera discussions led to a request for a guest column detailing the frugal product development process behind the Tata Nano. It was an exciting opportunity to have a client’s expertise highlighted, and a personally gratifying win,” he said.
